Pacific Center For Human Growth

An LGBT-friendly therapy and peer support group center located in Berkeley. Offers individual and couples therapy (arranged by appointment via the counseling extension) as well as drop-in peer support groups run by and for members of the LGBT community, grief counseling, and HIV+ support. Check the website for peer group availability, times, locations, and additional info. Individual therapy accepts MediCal and is payed on a sliding scale. Peer groups suggest a donation of $5-20, but no one is turned away for a lack of funds.

Cost/Insurance

  • Sliding scale ranges from $45-$162 per session (depending on income and assets). Client intake fee is $45 for everyone, and individual costs will be determined at your first session.
  • Accepts specific types of MediCal (only Access and Beacon)
  • Clients receiving Ryan White funding are also serviced through EBAC referrals

Notes

For more information, go to http://pacificcenter.org. Most counselors/clinicians are supervised interns. There is typically a waitlist of 2-4 weeks for new clients. Clients under 18 are seen. Everything in session is confidential with the exception of if a person is a harm to themself or others, or if there is ongoing abuse involving a child or children.

Accessibility

Wheelchair accessible on first floor of buildings, but not the 2nd and 3rd floors. White noise machines are located all throughout building for people with sound sensitivities. Lots of spaces to sit down located in every room. Quiet waiting room space and outdoor patio area.

Transportation

Located right next to the 6 bus stop at Telegraph & Derby. Closest BART station is Downtown Berkeley. Parking available on neighborhood streets.

What to bring

Cash or check for payment. Photo ID and insurance card are recommended for specific clients with state insurance, but not necessary for intake.
