  • Services: vouchers for free eye exam and glasses from Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center (will not cover exam for medical issue)

Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center (Website)

Takes Medi-Cal and Medicare, as well as other insurances and a fee scale. Exams, eyewear. Also has emergency and urgent care.

  • Services: Basic exam services, including glasses prescription, and ocular health screenings
  • Additional Services:
    • Exams: binocular vision, low vision, medical, infant & toddler, visual function
    • Clinics: dry eye, myopia control, neuro-optometry, refractive surgery, sports vision, special visual assessment, digital health

Mindful Eyes

  • Services: Free over the counter glasses (no prescription) and prescription glasses (valid prescription needed) or receive a vision screening through Mindful Eyes.
  • Cost/ Insurance: Free, but there are eligibility requirements, must fall into one of these categories:
    • An adult in a household with total annual income at or below 138% of the federal poverty guideline ($16753 for a household size of 1 as of 2018)
    • An adult (over the age of 18) receiving Medi-Cal or county health benefits
    • A veteran of the armed forces

  • Hours: 5:30pm-7:00pm on 2nd and 4th on the Wed of each month, Drop-in Only


La Clinica De La Raza Family Optical (Website)

  • Services: eye/vision analysis, glaucoma and cataracts evaluation, eye disease testing, DMV vision exam, contact lens fitting/evaluation, progressive lenses
  • Cost/Insurance: Low-cost/Sliding scale; accepts most forms of health insurance (Medi-Cal, Medicare, and most managed care plans)

Northeast Medical Services (NEMS) (Website)

  • Services: Comprehensive eye examinations, glaucoma screening, retinal examinations for diabetic patients, contact lenses fitting (not covered by Medi-Cal), glasses, frames, sunglasses
  • Cost: Sliding scale if uninsured (must provide proof of income and assets), also accepts most private insurance, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and others
