County clinics

These clinics are part of the Alameda health system, funded directly by the county. In general, the waitlist for these clinics seems to be longer than the community clinics below. But lots of services! Probably ideal for someone that can wait a month or so. Have to be an Alameda County resident.

  • Winton Wellness in Hayward. A more concise summary. New patients should contact the Call Center at 510-437-8500.

Community clinics

These clinics usually take some time to enroll as a patient in their services, although with some you may be able to be seen and do enrollment paperwork at the same time. You can also be seen at these clinics over time as a patient- it is your primary care provider. And they are comprehensive services! Sometimes even including dental.

  • Asian Health Services (Website) in Oakland. They have a pretty long waitlist, so may not be the best one to recommend unless a client can only speak an Asian language. Apparently won't take people if they don't have Medi-Cal.
  • Axis Community Health (Website) in Pleasonton and Livermore. Call 925-462-1755 to schedule an enrollment appointment. Do not need to have insurance.
  • La Clinica (Website) has so many sites! In Alameda, they are mostly in Oakland it looks like, although there are more options if a teen. To register, call the health center you would like to be seen at- usually will need to go in person. Will need some paperwork. Will help you enroll in Covered California.
  • LifeLong Medical Care (Website). You MUST call 510-981-4100 for services. Has clinics in Berkeley and Oakland mainly, although they also have school based clinics.
  • Native American Health Center (Website) has general medical services in Oakland. If no insurance, there may be programs to help. To make an appointment, call 510-535-4400.
  • Piedmont Primary Care (Website). Locations in Piedmont, and Concord! Their Piedmont number is 510-428-4900. Do a whole number of things, Primary care, acute care, in-office basic surgeries (ie. stich removal, cyst removal, abcesses), take insurance but NO MEDI-CAL. Otherwise starts at 150. They do same-day appointments, no walk in, bring photo ID.
  • Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (Website) has locations in San Leandro, Hayward, Union City and Fremont! Call (510) 471-5880 to make an appointment, need to be an Alameda County resident!
  • Tri-City Health Center (Website) has locations only in Fremont! Call the appointment line, (510)770- 8040, to enroll. Has sliding scale, takes insurance, will require paperwork.
  • West Oakland Health Council has locations in Berkeley and Oakland. Need to be an Alameda County resident. Locations in Berkeley offer only adult medical services. Call the desired service site to register.
    • For Berkeley location, William B. Rumford medical center, call 510-549-3166. Located at 2960 Sacramento Street.
  • Healthy Oakland Save a Life Wellness Clinic. At 2580 San Pablo Avenue. Offers primary care and chronicle disease management. you can make an appointment or drop in for certain services. Takes Governmental insurance or self pay $80. Services includes physicals, prescription writing, TB testing (Not all the time. Call to verify). No STI, lab testing (except glucose & lipid), X-Ray. Please call 510-444-9155 (Clinic)/ 510-444-9655 (Main) for more information/make an appointment.

Drop-in

  • West Oakland Health Center does seem to provide 'drop-in' services. Call (510) 302-3733 or (510) 302-3792 between 7 am to 9 am to schedule a same day appointment. Open to everyone, but if you don't have insurance, they will try to find a financial program or sign you up for Medi-Cal. Unclear if they help you sign up. You can also request an appointment at their East Oakland office, but have to call directly for Berkeley.
  • Davis Street Primary Clinic (San Leandro). 510.347.4620, fee for service, low-cost sliding scale, can also accept Medi-Cal. Do paperwork, pay upfront, based on monthly income. The lowest fee is $20. Hours are M-F, 8-12 am, 1-4 pm. Thursdays, only do 8-12.

  • Concentra (Oakland, San Leandro) Depends on service. Seems to be more reasonable than Access health, at least going by TB. Also a $10 off coupon from their website. (Also takes insurance!) Appointments only it looks like, with more information about what to bring.

  • Terra Nova Medical Center (Oakland) Starts at 75. (510) 534-5331, located at 3608 International Blvd, Oakland, California 94601
  • Access Health (Oakland) Starts at 90. More detailed fee schedule. No insurance accepted. Located inside Milagros de Mexico, a supermarket! At 3351 International Blvd. Oakland, CA 94601. 510.500.9058. Can either walk in or call, although seems to like scheduling an appointment. CLOSED.
  • Direct Urgent Care (Website) (Berkeley) Starts at 150. NO Medi-Cal, although accepts Medi-Care. Complete fee schedule. Can set up an appointment online or over the phone at 510-686-3621. Located at 3095 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley, CA. Cannot do any bloodwork or ultrasound.
  • Healthy Oakland has clinics Fridays 9-5pm. They offer general primary care, physicals, Chronic disease management, TB (sometimes. Need to call to check). Takes governmental insurance or self pay for $80/visit.
  • Piedmont Primary Care (Website). Locations in Piedmont, and Concord! Their Piedmont number is (510) 428-4900. Do a whole number of things, Primary care, acute care, in-office basic surgeries (ie. stich removal, cyst removal, abcesses), take insurance but no Medi-Cal. They only do appointments. Start at $150 for initial consultation, with additional services on top of that.
  • One Medical Group (Berkeley). 510-225-1025, M-F 8-6. Takes a lot of different insurance, but also charges $150 for initial appointment, $100 for subsequent appointments.
  • Stat Med Urgent Care (Lafayette and Concord). M-F 8-8, SS 9-5. Takes private insurances, MediCare (not MediCal). Quite expensive but claims to offer discounts to uninsured.

Free

  • Order of Malta (Oakland). Takes a few weeks to get an appointment! Needs to be an uninsured resident. Physical exams, lab tests, x-rays. electrocardiograms, ultrasounds, immunizations. Also chronic medical conditions. No surgery or other invasive procedures. Call 510-587-3000.
  • Ashland Free Clinic (San Lorenzo). Call 510-407-2362. For the very first appointment, arrive on Saturday at 8 am to sign up as a patient there for continual care- they will schedule your next appointments with you. They can see very specific things. They cannot see urgent labs, animal bites, no immunizations/tb tests, bleeding, ob/gyn, emergency, or anything requiring special equipment.
  • Suitcase Clinic Suitcase Clinic (Services Calendar) (Berkeley). Has medical clinic throughout the year, not during the summer. Tuesday from 6:15 pm - 9 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, 2407 Dana Street at Haste Street. I think they are mostly students, not professionals. So basic stuff like what we can see at the Berkeley Free Clinic.
  • LGBTQ Suitcase Clinic (Berkeley). Every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 12:30 - 3 pm. At the Pacific Center, 2712 Telegraph Ave (cross st. Derby), Berkeley. Drop in; has a medical professional, so can write prescriptions, etc. No access to labs or anything like that though.
  • Rotacare (San Leandro). Thursday, from 4:30 to 7 pm, people have to call in at 510-347-4620 to confirm availability! ALSO have to get there at 2 to make an appointment; only see UP TO 8 adults and 8 children, first come first serve. Would not recommend unless desperate due to difficulty of getting appointments, but it is free. It is also open to those not eligible for health insurance!! So if not here legally.
  • Street Level Health Project (Website). Street Level’s free health screenings are open to anyone without health insurance. We offer basic diagnostic and treatment services, as well as referrals for primary, specialty and urgent care. Our services are available without regard to ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin or ability to pay. Drop-in Health Screening Clinic: Mondays: 10:00am to 1:30pm, Wednesdays: 12:00pm to 5:00pm, Thursdays: 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Languages Spoken: Spanish, English, Nepali, and Mongolian (Mon/Wed only).   • San Francisco Free Clinic (Website). 4900 California St (at 11th Ave). 415-750-9894. Free clinic serving only uninsured. Call one week ahead of time. Some translation services available. Services include: Preventive health care, diabetes screening and care, chronic care for illnesses such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, vaccinations, annual check-up exams, non-emergency treatment of acute problems, dietary counseling, yoga. Diabetes screenings are available without an appointment, between 10 am and 12 pm Monday-Friday (client must fast for 12 hours beforehand).
